Štětí lies on the right bank of the Elbe, north of Prague.

The earliest documented records of Štětí date from 1312, and in 1549 King Ferdinand I granted the townlet a seal and coat of arms. The Baroque Church of St Simon and St Jude, with paintings by J. Kramolín, was built in 1785. The KIZ Štětí cultural centre has a large hall and a small hall for concerts, theatre and lectures.
